Third edition, for wise reasons, focused the default setting of the core book on 531, which is when Arhtur's reign is in full swing. Second edition was announced, never came out, doesn't exist. There are different customs, ideals, passions, and equipment available as one moves through history. The Campagin begins during the rough and tumble time before Arthur takes the throne, moves through Arhtur's reign, and the fall of Camelot. I would add two things:įirst edition KAP core rules assumed an open ended timeline, to be used in conjunction with The Pendragon Campaign. These two supplements aren't required, but round out the game nicely. The core rules alone will let you have a blast.Īlso at drivethru is The Book of Knights & Ladies, as well as The Book of Battles (2nd ed.) which is Stafford's final Battle System for KAP which replaces the one in the core rules if you wish and the Battle System Stafford was really happy with. This method is ultimately how Stafford saw the game working - but again you don't need to use this supplement. This is the only book you need to play the game.Īdd in The Great Pendragon Campaign and you have a backdrop for KAP that will last about two years of real time sessions.
It is available on drivethru in PDF now, and print early next year. At least that what Stafford last thought on the matter.
KAP is not about a medievalish Arthurian setting in the typical RPG sense with a neat set of mechanics. Eventually Stafford agreed and he ripped these elements out of the game. I have always thought it blows up the game. Second, 4th edition has a Magic system and an option for PCs to be non-knight characters, including spell casters. But the core book still will keep you busy and is a great starting point. If you want more options for Player Knights grab a copy of The Book of Knights & Ladies. For this reason it the best version available. I think it is the best version up to this point. King Arthur Pendragon 5.2 is Stafford's latest (and last) iteration of the game, with all the thinking he had done about the gam in the decades up to that point.
